I am looking for 3 thin Bezel Screens and an Aavara Stand for them.
I would like to get hold of 30" screens, but I have had no luck in finding any local or even a stand that can support them. So, I am willing to settle for anything from a 24" upward.

This is to complete my hybrid Eyefinity Physx rig. If they have FPU connectors, that would help, but it is not necessary.

Games, games, games, what would my world have been without those digital world to explore, gasp at in wonder and the incessant killing of countless bad ….. things.
All the killing is of course deserved, if they aren’t talking over our world, destroying New York City, they are taking our hot 18 year old our virgins. Luckily we have lots of really big guns and different flavors of bubble gum to kick ass with.

This is just a list of games I would like to play right now and perhaps a reason for doing so.

Rage: By id Software, I can’t wait for the game, to explore a world created by id Software is like first time you are with a girlfriend, exploring her…the game is very, very enjoyable. Seriously though, I like the general game design id Software has, the way they do things in their games. Hopefully we’ll have lots of exploring and digital killing to do. I am so looking forward to experience the latest id Software Engine!

Crysis 2: The first Crysis, even though I had to play it on the most min levels, I still enjoyed it thoroughly, having several different power-ups to choose from and often several ways to finish a group of enemies left the game open for you play in your own style. You could hang back, take out some guys with a sniper rifle, go in hard and fast with or stealthy….ok, so stealth didn’t last long but if you used your cloak just right, it could get you out of some tight spots.
I hope the NYC settings deliver what the jungle did. From the vids I have seen, its going to be epic.

Bulletstorm: This game is my meat and potatoes. Run and gun FPS gamers have often been called mindless…. Whatever, doesn’t bother me in the least. What could be more fun than run around with big guns and killing random, very deserving …. Thing? Oh yeah, the ability to make fun of them dying by doing it with style! (oh dear, I just the screams of horror of anti gaming zealots) Chained grenades, rewards like “Fire in the (ass)Hole” and various other rewards and ways to dispatch. The world also looks spectacular, thanks to the Unreal 3 engine.

Dead Space 2: Becuase killing aliens in zero gravity has never been this fun! I love the whole horror angle of the game, walking down corridors waiting for some horribly mangeld corpse to try and stick you with an equally mangled but sharply sharp pointed limb.

Duke Nukem Forever: What more is there to say, just Duke, I want the Duke back! Guns, barely clothed babes, bubble gum, aliens and an arrogant attitude….what more do you want??

Brink: This game looks to have a very similar game play mechanic to Borderlands with points given for killing bad guys. One major attraction to the game is the way you move around, almost like Mirror Edge but with guns! The setting and characters also looks very interesting.

Fallout New Vegas: I never played any Fallout games before Fallout 3, albeit, never completed any but Fallout 3 was an awesome game! I like exploring an interesting game world filled with loot and things to shoot at. However, imho, the engine that powers New Vegas, looks sort of dated. Still, a good game isn’t only about a great game engine.

XCOM: Also, never played any of them, but the FPS game looks interesting, that one major thing, we need more unique games that don’t copy and keep using the same middle east setting. Videos look great!

Portal 2: I remember watching the trailers for the first one and thinking, “There’s no way in hell that I will be able to do all that.” I got the game, played it and finished it! Loved the game for the (some infuriating) puzzles and brilliant sense of humor. Now I have seen the trailers for Portal 2 and I am very certain that I won’t be able to complete the game! But I like the new ideas Valve has put in the game!

Trine 2: Although I don’t like platform or side scroller games, this game just has something magical about it. The physics and different character available adds the game play.

The Witcher 2 Assissins Of Kings: I so wish I had more time, takes a bit longer to get into a RPG than a FPS imho, I'm enjoying the 1st Witcher and will most deffinately get the 2nd.

Games I am keeping an eye on are

Fable III

The new Alice game

HL2 EP3

Contrary to popular wish lists, I am not interested in CoD Black Ops and Medal of Honor, egotistical, money grabbing publishers can shove it. Also, I am getting tired of the shoot this muslim terr or that russain terr. MP is another thing, that is the only thing I am interested in….but both will prolly not have LAN support.

F.3.A.R. I am a huge fan of the first FEAR, it was something really refreshing and had a really dark story line which attracted me. The following expansions and subsequent sequel was enjoyable. I have seen the F3AR trailers and looks like they are using an engine older than the first FEAR. Just the lighting on the characters looks crappy and the whole story feels very cheesy, unlike the original dark story of the first.

Well, that my list that I can currently think of.

Remember that torrent yesterday that contained the personal information off of 100 million scraped Facebook profiles? I thought it was strange that the guy didn't sell this information, since many companies would be interested. Turns out they are interested.

Reader Clint discovered that all you had to do is use something like Peer Block, which grabs the IPs of the other users also downloading the torrent and identifies which company or university or organization they belong to. You can check this yourself by hopping on the torrent and doing the same thing.

Here are the major companies that are downloading the torrent. A couple caveats to these. Just because a company is on the list, doesn't mean that it's a sanctioned download by the company itself to grab the user information for some purpose. It could easily just be some dude at the company who wanted to download the torrent himself to check it out. Also, the IP addresses assigned to a company might fluctuate (they usually don't, much, unless major companies change their connection to the internet, so it should be mostly accurate).
A.C.

The investment arms of the CIA and Google are both backing a company that monitors the web in real time — and says it uses that information to predict the future. The company is called Recorded Future, and it scours tens of thousands of websites, blogs and Twitter accounts to find the relationships between people, organizations, actions and incidents — both present and still-to-come. In a white paper, the company says its temporal analytics engine “goes beyond search” by “looking at the ‘invisible links’ between documents that talk about the same, or related, entities and events.”

The idea is to figure out for each incident who was involved, where it happened and when it might go down. Recorded Future then plots that chatter, showing online “momentum” for any given event.
“The cool thing is, you can actually predict the curve, in many cases,” says company CEO Christopher Ahlberg, a former Swedish Army Ranger with a PhD in computer science.

Which naturally makes the 16-person Cambridge, Massachusetts, firm attractive to Google Ventures, the search giant’s investment division, and to In-Q-Tel, which handles similar duties for the CIA and the wider intelligence community.

It’s not the very first time Google has done business with America’s spy agencies. Long before it reportedly enlisted the help of the National Security Agency to secure its networks, Google sold equipment to the secret signals-intelligence group. In-Q-Tel backed the mapping firm Keyhole, which was bought by Google in 2004 — and then became the backbone for Google Earth.

This appears to be the first time, however, that the intelligence community and Google have funded the same startup, at the same time. No one is accusing Google of directly collaborating with the CIA. But the investments are bound to be fodder for critics of Google, who already see the search giant as overly cozy with the U.S. government, and worry that the company is starting to forget its “don’t be evil” mantra.

America’s spy services have become increasingly interested in mining “open source intelligence” — information that’s publicly available, but often hidden in the daily avalanche of TV shows, newspaper articles, blog posts, online videos and radio reports.

“Secret information isn’t always the brass ring in our profession,” then CIA-director General Michael Hayden told a conference in 2008. “In fact, there’s a real satisfaction in solving a problem or answering a tough question with information that someone was dumb enough to leave out in the open.”

U.S. spy agencies, through In-Q-Tel, have invested in a number of firms to help them better find that information. Visible Technologies crawls over half a million web 2.0 sites a day, scraping more than a million posts and conversations taking place on blogs, YouTube, Twitter and Amazon. Attensity applies the rules of grammar to the so-called “unstructured text” of the web to make it more easily digestible by government databases. Keyhole (now Google Earth) is a staple of the targeting cells in military-intelligence units.

Recorded Future strips from web pages the people, places and activities they mention. The company examines when and where these events happened (“spatial and temporal analysis”) and the tone of the document (“sentiment analysis”). Then it applies some artificial-intelligence algorithms to tease out connections between the players. Recorded Future maintains an index with more than 100 million events, hosted on Amazon.com servers. The analysis, however, is on the living web.

“We’re right there as it happens,” Ahlberg told Danger Room as he clicked through a demonstration. “We can assemble actual real-time dossiers on people.”

Recorded Future certainly has the potential to spot events and trends early. Take the case of Hezbollah’s long-range missiles. On March 21, Israeli President Shimon Peres leveled the allegation that the terror group had Scud-like weapons. Scouring Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s past statements, Recorded Future found corroborating evidence from a month prior that appeared to back up Peres’ accusations.

That’s one of several hypothetical cases Recorded Future runs in its blog devoted to intelligence analysis. But it’s safe to assume that the company already has at least one spy agency’s attention. In-Q-Tel doesn’t make investments in firms without an “end customer” ready to test out that company’s products.

Both Google Ventures and In-Q-Tel made their investments in 2009, shortly after the company was founded. The exact amounts weren’t disclosed, but were under $10 million each. Google’s investment came to light earlier this year online. In-Q-Tel, which often announces its new holdings in press releases, quietly uploaded a brief mention of its investment a few weeks ago.

Both In-Q-Tel and Google Ventures have seats on Recorded Future’s board. Ahlberg says those board members have been “very helpful,” providing business and technology advice, as well as introducing him to potential customers. Both organizations, it’s safe to say, will profit handsomely if Recorded Future is ever sold or taken public. Ahlberg’s last company, the corporate intelligence firm Spotfire, was acquired in 2007 for $195 million in cash.

Google Ventures did not return requests to comment for this article. In-Q-Tel Chief of Staff Lisbeth Poulos e-mailed a one-line statement: “We are pleased that Recorded Future is now part of IQT’s portfolio of innovative startup companies who support the mission of the U.S. Intelligence Community.”

Just because Google and In-Q-Tel have both invested in Recorded Future doesn’t mean Google is suddenly in bed with the government. Of course, to Google’s critics — including conservative legal groups, and Republican congressmen — the Obama Administration and the Mountain View, California, company slipped between the sheets a long time ago.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt hosted a town hall at company headquarters in the early days of Obama’s presidential campaign. Senior White House officials like economic chief Larry Summers give speeches at the New America Foundation, the left-of-center think tank chaired by Schmidt. Former Google public policy chief Andrew McLaughlin is now the White House’s deputy CTO, and was publicly (if mildly) reprimanded by the administration for continuing to hash out issues with his former colleagues.

In some corners, the scrutiny of the company’s political ties have dovetailed with concerns about how Google collects and uses its enormous storehouse of search data, e-mail, maps and online documents. Google, as we all know, keeps a titanic amount of information about every aspect of our online lives. Customers largely have trusted the company so far, because of the quality of their products, and because of Google’s pledges not to misuse the information still ring true to many.

But unease has been growing. Thirty seven state Attorneys General are demanding answers from the company after Google hoovered up 600 gigabytes of data from open Wi-Fi networks as it snapped pictures for its Street View project. (The company swears the incident was an accident.)

“Assurances from the likes of Google that the company can be trusted to respect consumers’ privacy because its corporate motto is ‘don’t be evil’ have been shown by recent events such as the ‘Wi-Spy’ debacle to be unwarranted,” long-time corporate gadfly John M. Simpson told a Congressional hearing in a prepared statement. Any business dealings with the CIA’s investment arm are unlikely to make critics like him more comfortable.

But Steven Aftergood, a critical observer of the intelligence community from his perch at the Federation of American Scientists, isn’t worried about the Recorded Future deal. Yet.

“To me, whether this is troublesome or not depends on the degree of transparency involved. If everything is aboveboard — from contracts to deliverables — I don’t see a problem with it,” he told Danger Room by e-mail. “But if there are blank spots in the record, then they will be filled with public skepticism or worse, both here and abroad, and not without reason.”

SIGGRAPH 2010, the annual computer graphics trade show of the ACM, started is exhibition Tuesday and Nvidia demonstrated at its booth the latest Quadro Fermi graphics cards.

Nvidia demonstrated the new release of the Application Acceleration Engine, AXE 2.0. The new version is optimized to run on the new Quadro Fermi cards, but will run on any G92 or later generation cards. These engines allow for interactive ray-tracing where the user can interact with the ray-traced scene quickly without an extensive wait for re-rendering.

Nvidia’s 'mental images' division also demonstrated its iRay application, which takes the above capabilities and adds physically correct global illumination to the features. Global illumination is critical for correct lighting in most 3D digital content creation and the ability to view and interact with a globally illuminated scene will greatly accelerate the ability of artists to work quickly. In addition iRay supports network distributed rendering across GPUs.

GPU-rendered image from Bunkspeed SHOT using iray

Nvidia partners like The Foundry, RTT, and Bunkspeed also demonstrated their applications making use of CUDA-accelerated interactive ray-tracing. RTT’s application actually calculated airflow over the model and rendered the model, interactively, both using CUDA, while Bunkspeed’s SHOT uses mental images' iRay to provide interative ray tracing and global illumination.

In a few GPU generations, these can be expected to proceed from ‘interactive’ to ‘real-time’ and we should start seeing the use of real-time ray-tracing and global illumination in games.

We've already seen the small and flexible BeagleBoard used for a couple of different DIY projects, but few quite as impressive as this wearable computer built by Martin Magnusson.

In addition to complementing any outfit, this rig runs Angstrom Linux, uses a modified pair of Myvu Crystal video glasses (and some stylish shades) for a display, and simply relies on a Bluetooth keyboard for input and a tethered iPhone for internet connectivity. Of course, if the shoulder strap isn't your thing, Martin has also demonstrated that the rig can discreetly fit in a standard CD case -- check it out after the break, and hit up the source link below for a look at the complete build process.
Thanks!

SLicK had a most wonderful idea (as he often does). "Let's get a few guys together and have a weekend of Titan Quest", he said. "F*ck, yeah", said I, "why not ?" (or something like that).

We're not sure exactly when to do this marvelous thing, but it will be held on a weekend pretty soon.
So far there are 5 guys interested and a couple more would make it an even better event.

Some basics :
With the object of the event being to play through TQ and Immortal Throne in their entirety in a mother of a session, we would prefer peeps with some staying power to attend.
Everyone attending should be present before we kick off to strategise about which character classes to choose to optimise the unleashing of fury upon monster butts.
(Obviously this thread can be used to plot some mastery combinations in the meantime.)
We'll be starting with level 1 characters, so NO need to build your character beforehand.

So, anyone interested ?
Please indicate which weekend(s) would suit you best.
