Well if you set them to run @ DDR 800, the DDR 677 will be clocked to DDR 800 and the DDR 800, well, will just run normal. Your DDR 800 is currently under clocked.

You need to go into your BIOS to do this. Ok lets start of like this. Do you know how your BIOS works? Do you know where the OC settings are?

BTW, what brand are the RAM?

I think you are correct, well half way maybe. Where in windows are you seeing that its 3GIG, because technically it should say the amount of RAM that you have, even if its 8GIG, but in task manager you should see it only using 3. (I will be testing this later tonight)

I am running Windows 7 x64. If you want to 'see' over 3.2Gb of RAM you are going to been a 64bit OS.
32Bit OS's don't only limit RAM but generally limit all working capabilities to 3.2Gb. For example if you have 3Gb of RAM and a 1Gb Video card the OS can still only reference 3.2Gb of memory so you are losing out there too.

Personally I recommend 4Gb of memory, a x64 OS, and maybe clock the memory to 800Mhz and tighten the timings.

yes, I do know where my overclocking settings are in my bios. I know how to overclock my cpu. (but thats about it.)

@ Neo. Ok well go to those settings and look for an option called "DDR Frequency" or "DDR:FSB" ratio. If you can set your frequency manually, then great. Set it to 400MHz. If you need a ratio, work it out. If your FSB is 400, then you are really lucky. Put it on 1:1. Otherwise there will be a list of DDR freq. that you can choose. Choose 400MHz..

If you don't completely understand, just read my guide.

You really won't easily be able to tighten the timings of the DDR 677 RAM if you run them at 800MHz... If he has really really good RAM, then maybe. But not many DDR 677's can do that.

@ Neo, if you want you can tell me what mobo you have and I can go google the BIOS settings of it. Maybe try and help you in that way if it will make you feel safer.

EDIT: Bump on this NEO please.

I went to my bios, and under jumper free configuration I have:

    AI tuning
    CPU frequency
    DRAM frequency
    PCI express frequency
    Spread spectrum
    memory voltage
    CPU vcore Voltage.

I went to the DRAM frequency and I have 4 options Auto, 533, 667 and 800 MHz,

I take it I should update that from auto to 800Mhz?
