With all the fuss about uncapped ADSL in the last few days I am forced to wonder about Telkom. They have a huge presence in the local DSL arena.
Are we likely to see an uncapped offering from them soon as well?
What do you guys think?

I know stuff about stuff. OK?
Now have a bet with my former employer that Telkom will not hit the market with a competitive product...
Let's see.

Telkom will probably bring out an uncapped product but it will fail. Well I signed up with Afrihost Uncapped today I will keep you guys updated with the performance and throttling of this product.Just note that I will only be going on Uncapped at the end of the Month, but signed up today.![]()
What do you mean with, "where are they"???
They are in the best possible position. Remember, you still need to rent your lines from them after all. They don't need to provide a service at this point as they provide the infrastructure. Like every where else in SA, when ever something is wrong with your internet it is either Telkom or the ISP. But the ISP's even blame Telkom. So ya, they are right in the middle of this.
I do believe it to be the best possible place as well with the current developments. Why? Simple.
1) Have all these leasing companies fight about a service that runs on your lines. You charge for the line and have them worry about the rest.
2) Since you ONLY provide the infrastructure, you don't have to use your desktop support to assist if things go sour. It is each of the leasing ISP's responsibility.
3) Competition is good, but not for a new product, if it hasn't been tested enough. Failures will take place and we, Telkom, will learn from their mistakes.
4) As failures take place, customers will move their services around to other ISP's. Eventually we will have learned sufficient info to take on the game as well, and ppl will love the idea of uncapped internet but hate the hassle.
5) Lastly, step in and provide an uncapped solution at YOUR price. Ppl already rely on it but hate the service provided up till that time. This means that they will forever complain about the price, but since your the only one, monopoly, it really doesn't matter.
I think that they might start off their packages in about 3 - 6 months time. Have the leasing companies fight it out first and make the mistakes.
Just what I am thinking, if it is the case, that we will have to wait and see though.
