After horribly hijacking Absent thread, I decided to start a fresh one on Cloud storage. This is the future and I am sure we could have comparisons and what works better and so on. While browsing Tech CruchI came acroos a Open source solution. What is your opinion?

I've not read that article but I think one thing for that limits the use of big files is data costs, esp 3G.

For smaller files however, its awesome. Like I said, I've not read the article but with all these cracking of servers, I'm worried about my files. I'd never place anything personal on a public server but I would like some kind of encryption, before I was told to f off at my previous employer, one guy told me about some storage supplier that encrypts the files on your machine and then uploads it, that way, even if they crack the server and even if they get root and what passwords on the server, they still cant access your files easily, well except if they have a supercomputer and a couple of years.

But, I'm going of the point, its the future, cloud storage, processing, servers, etc.

What files would you store on cloud storage?

I have about 250GB of data in photo's.  With an uncapped connection, besides the initial upload which is likely to take quite a bit of time, I believe it would be quite feasible to keep a copy of everything in the cloud.

Heh, DynDNS... home server... w00t, accessible internationally :P Except now the DSL lines in my area are down 70% of the day :\

I've been thinking of using cloud storage, but I realised I won't actually have much use for it.
Maybe in due time I will, and whatever gets discussed will definitely be taken up and thought of when that time comes.

That looks great Wolve..  Just can't get my head around the 'Infinite' storage.  I mean, there must be reasonable agreements to that.  If Google decided to keep their copy of the internet there, for example... :P

Having said that, I imagine that 250GB would fall well within 'infinite'?

I signed up and downloaded your folder.  Japan huh?  Must have been interesting :)

@Absent: Can you try to click on the ' Add to your Bitcasa Drive' button, instead of downloading?  I want to see if it creates a copy of the folder, keeps a different version of it but allow for updates, etc.
Anything over 10GB will fall into the 'Infinite' offering.. They're currenly having a special on the Infinite plan; USD69 for one year, as opposed to USD99

Japan was interesting.. didn;t have much time to do much, as I had to take care of my kid-bro and his hurt foot [ looooooooooooooooong story ].. But plan to go there again at the end of this year, but by myself :D

OK I've added it.  I actually added it twice to start with and had two identical folders.  Deleted the one.

No I didn't get the update.  Only the original 7 pics.

Incidentally, even in the link you posted, there is only the 7 original pics.

@Absent:That's interesting.. so if you use it to not only store your pictures, but share it with others, you'd need to give them an updated link if you add more pictures to an already shared folder...

Box.com is currently having a few promo >>see here<<and since I have gave my older bro my HP Elite book tablet [running Windows 8 64bit] I decided to try out the HP Windows 8 Promo [25GB storage]... and it worked Oo..
Since I didn't wanna sync or cause any issues on his profile, I created a new one on the machine, then installed the box.com app from the windows store, logged-in with the existing box.com account details.. and was greeted with a msg saying my account has been auto-upgraded to 25GB :D

Well, I've run out of space on my free 5GB iCloud account. For an immediate and quick solution, I've gone for the R160/per year 10GB upgrade, for 15GB total iCloud space.
