As in buying items from bitcoinstore.com or just selling the 0.8BTC...
I find the 0.4 part of 6.4 parts [40% of 2BTC] really challenging... mainly from a logical entity perspective, not from a currency perspective... perhaps that's the issue [?]

Ohh.. and I have a spare CM 1200W Silent Pro Gold PSU, sitting and gathering dust...
I had contemplated getting a 4-way CF MoBo [ASRock 990FX Extreme4 possibly], with a Sempron CPU, and one HD 7950 [Asus or MSI] as a start.. then add another HD7950 after a few months.. then another HD7950.. then another HD7950...

But it just seems like soo much work!!

You can even pay like 0.01BTC if you would like. ;)

@Razer: I have access to several server rooms [small fries] & data centers [big corporates].. but I won't leave the BTC mining rig there...

@Zizzy:
0.01BTC !!!! ....  X-|  *just keep telling yourself, it's a currency... and the internal logic error would go away* :P
Zizzy.. you think that set-up would work okay for BTC mining?  I'm game to build it, if you & Senshi are willing to guide me...

Yeah dude, I think it will work like a charm. I am currently helping my friend build a monster setup. It will consist of 3 PC's with x2 HD 5970's each. That's a total of x6 HD 5970's farming away. The budget is R30k, so we should be able to pull it off. IF we can get them second hand.

If things stay the way they are now (mining difficulty, usd/zar exchange, btc worth), they should make R6.2k per month. Use this calculator to see how I got R6.2k. Enter 4500 for the Mega Hash rate (750 x 6). I guessed the HD 5970 should get about 750mhs. Check this list.

So yeah, with x4 HD 7950's you should get about R3.1k per month.

So lets hope the difficulty goes down and the btc worth up. I'll rather not wish for the usd/zar to get any worse. :P

Thanks Zizzy :)

HMmmMmm... Perhaps I should just go with HD 7970's instead?

Was looking at this [ http://bitclockers.c...x.php?topic=6.0 ], and compared the performance of the HD 5970 and HD 7970 [both windows systems, as no HD 7970 Linux stats published]
I assume the Linux stats of a HD 7970 would be better that the HD 5970 [?]

Hey man,

Mmmm well if you have the money, I would go with the HD 7970's rather than the HD 7950's. They do have a jump up in mega hash per second. Just note that they do pull more power ofc. But you will definitively make more money with the 7970's, except if electricity suddenly becomes 10 times more expensive. :P

Edit: Anyway, the speed you get depends on the miner you are mining with (eg cgminer or OpenCL), not linux or windows. Or maybe it makes a difference, since I haven't tested it before. So I can't answer that with certainty.

Overall I do think the 5970 is a bit of a better farmer than the 7970 (but not by far at all), but they are a few years older than the 7970's. So 7970's would be your best buy if you have the cash (I think).

Thanks Zizzy!! Much appreciated!

I'm gonna see if I can make some time for some ROI calcs [OpEx & CapEx] and will factor in the power usage, etc...
I think I should start shopping for that MoBo & CPU in the mean time..
The cool thing is, in addition to the CM Silent Pro Gold 1200W PSU, I also have a few EK Universal GPU water-blocks, a 3x140 ThermoChill PA140.3 RAD+ 2x120 ThermoChill PA120.2 RAD, Res + MCP355 spare/not in use...  I suppose that should handle the head generated from 4x GFX cards [potentially HD 7970's] easily...

I think the real cool aspect is that whatever GFX card(s) get selected, their resale value won't drop by much due to the BTC potential they offer [no?] So, I could potentially select the HD 7950's now, and in about 1 yrs time, sell them at not too much of a loss, and get HD 7970's or better...

BUT!!! The math must convince me... so I need to see when I can start with those ROI calcs :)

My setup is 4x pc's each with 2x 7950's atm.

Netting around R6k per month after electricity costs.

How close was my guess? :D Spot on! :P

So x6 HD 5970's do the same as x8 7950's it would seem. :) Good to know.

@Wolve, I've got class in 10 minutes, will reply to your post/pm once I get back. :)

The HD 5970 has finally arrived!! Finally!

Not sure when I'm going to get time to install it, but when I do I plan on getting 3.1k per month. Also still have an extra HD 5770 lying around, but my media pc is broken, so I can't mine with it. :(

My setup should have this overall soon:

x1 HD 5970
x2 HD 5870's
x1 HD 5850
x1 HD 5770
x1 HD 5750

Can't wait. :D

@Senshi, what are your card's core speeds (I know there are different models 800/850/880 etc)? Also, are they overclocked?
