I'm not too sure about the exact release of Windows 8 (wikipediasays October the 26th, but when it'll hit SA, I dont know)

But, regardless of the actual release date, is anyone planning to move their primary OS to Win 8?

I'm honestly worried about it being introduced at work, luckily we just went through an upgrade phase, almost over and so will upgrade users only in a couple of years (5 years or more+. I upgraded most users from Win XP with Office XP/2003. Had 2 or 3 Vista Machines.) to what ever comes after Win 8. I dont have the patience to teach users whom thinks that if there isnt a MS Word shortcut on the desktop, it isnt installed.

Besides that, the whole GUI has turned me from it, I dont like it at all and I dont see that changing anytime soon, its far too much of a radical change.

So, I'm not going over to Win 8.

Win 7 (and openSUSE 12.2) is perfect, suits me just dandy.

Check this:

Quote

Microsoft is spending between $1.5 billion and $1.8 billion on its Windows 8 marketing campaign, Forbes reported.

This isnt a bash MS post, I have great respect for MS, they have come a long way and without them, I don't think computing would be so mainstream.

Care to share your feeling?

Windows 8 reminds me of how much a fail vista was.

Windows 7 was big for me...Tabera and I were chomping at the bit when the release date was finally upon us. Windows 8...heard nothing good. I don't  follow news on it and I didn't try the public beta.

I'm staying on Windows 7.

Was at Tech Day in CapeTown today. For those of you that don't know what it is: http://www.microsoft....aspx#Cape-Town

Went for free, got so many free things!

@ Flux, quite Ironic that you would say that. Windows 8 is basically a web developers dream. I hope your remark isn't just one of your hypocritical ones. ;) You know where at the end of the day you love Windows 8.. o.0

Windows 8 isn't just an upgrade like Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7 or what not. It's new. Quite different and interesting. Massive jump up for developers.

I've listened to hour after hour about all the new things about Windows 8 and especially Visual Studio 2012 (they really improved, I actually like VS now, used to hate it). I can inform you guys about quite a lot, but I am so tired, I am going for a nap. :P

I really like Windows 8 :D
Moving past Metro, Windows 8 feels a bit more responsive, multi-monitor & split screen functionality is great for me... and those subtle, but really cool features like the file-transfer pause/resume [the graph is cool too, I guess], awesome Task-Manager, etc. etc.
And that's just from a non-touch screen desktop perspective...

The touch features are definitely awesome as well... been using it on my 2740p for a bit, and Windows 7 can't compare from a touch-UI perspective.

My new notebook is eligible for the R.125.oo upgrade, so I'll be moving to that around December...

Windows 8 is superior to Windows 7. It literally is undeniable. It definitively is not another mistake like Vista, it is far from it. Or well, it might only have been the way they presented it. I might feel different after using it.

Personally I do not like the new way to explore your applications, but I guess it will grow on you. I hated what they did with the new Ubuntu, in a way, this is the same. For a year or more I will constantly be looking for that little X in the top right corner, mostly to find nothing there. Your app is just a drag away from closing, stupid.

How is the game support? I may try it if it has 100% game support...

They did not talk about game support at Tech Days 2012. So honestly I have no idea, but I am pretty sure it will be 100%.

DIY [Download It Yourself] :)

There seems to be some 'concerns' regarding Windows 8 & gaming... though some sites have actually used & benched popular games on Windows 8 and have shown a much-of-a-muchness with Windows 7...A few game developers were `frustrated` and some called it a `catastrophe`... Now, this is not anything to do with games not being able to be played on Windows 8; the reasons seems far more contrived, as well as potentially market-changing...

I have the beta downloaded somewhere but as yet I haven't installed it on a PC. I'm always up to try new things but at the moment Windows 7 is just so darn perfect, but of course I'll have to try it at some point.

Good or bad I think Windows 8 will be a paradigm shift for computing, in terms of going more online and in how we interact with our computers. Also the whole app store thing will probably curb a lot of the freedom that developers are accustomed to with Windows. I can't tell whether we'll actually enjoy Windows 8 in the future but at the moment there are too many groups of people that are upset overt it (developers, gamers, end-users and technicians mostly). Its only the gadget and enthusiast guys who seem to be really accepting it, at least that's what I'm seeing.

So I guess that makes me skeptical. Definitely not getting it on release day though.

Well, I hope that we get the same/similar launch prices as the rest of the world on Friday/Saturday [R.650.oo - R.750.oo for Windows 8 Pro] so I can buy a few of them for my bros & myself... If those prices are that low, it's not about whether I need/want to upgrade now or not; Windows 8 is the next OS & it's here, so might as well save some coin on it when I can :)

As far as I know there are a couple of developer companies that are maybe going to boycott Windows 8. I know for starters that Valve, Mojang and blizzard were pretty disappointed.

For anyone interested, Groupon has a great deal on Windows 8 Pro.

http://www.groupon.c.../national-deals

70% off - R599 including delivery for the full (Not upgrade) version.

As much as I haven't been interested in Windows 8, this is a very tempting deal.
